Alex Neill, group

I also do not recall the names of everyone in my group, but originally I had written that Rhetoric was defined as how the audience defines a situation based on previously occurred situations. My main focus had been the audience but after discussing with other classmates I realized that I needed to broaden my view on the actual meaning of "rhetoric". We then wrote down after further discussing the topic that rhetoric is how the audience interprets the text, based on previously viewed texts or situations. In addition, after reading we also applied the passage from Covino and Jolliffe about the 5 cannons contributing to deciphering and understanding what rhetoric actually means. Then, after discussing the meaning with another group we all decided that rhetoric is how the audience perceives a situation based on how the author structures the linguistics of the text. I believe that is the most accurate definition of what rhetoric actually is.
