Although Google may have simplified many things for us, I do not think that it is making me stupid. Actually, I think that Google might improve some people's intelligence. Without Google, many people might not even bother to look up information, simply because it is not easily accessible. With Google available to you whenever you want on your computer, you can look up anything. I probably would not go to the library to find information on a topic just for fun, like I look things up on Google. I would only do that if it was necessary for an assignment, most likely. I am glad Google has advanced so much, although I do not want it to take over human's ability to think for themselves, but the odds of that happening are very slim, in my opinion.

ReplyDeleteI agree with a lot of Shari's points. I don't think that Google is making us stupid and I think that it is improving people's intelligence, especially those who would never look up anything in a book because it is not easily accessible to them and takes effort. However, even without Google I probably would go to the library and look up information in a book just to be informed. Google isn't the only tool I used to get information, I still like to read and use a real book and flip through pages to find things, and books are usually more in depth rather than snippets of information. I also agree with her point that I do not want it to take over our ability to think for ourselves, rather just be a supplement to learning.

I think that the simplicity of google is what is so beneficial and the reason for its success. Type in a few words into the search bar and the answer to anything you want will appear before your eyes. Library's are not convenient, they are actually a little bit of a bother. You have to go there, look for a book and hope that it will have the information you want. Google makes it all much easier. It doesn't make us stupid, it makes us lazy.
