Is Google making me stupid?
I think that Google makes us lazier, and possibly less creative, but I do not think Google makes us stupid. I agree that it makes us think differently, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Google allows us to be more efficient by allowing us to access information quicker than ever. Thus, by spending less time researching things that have already been discovered, our brains have more time to ponder things that have not yet been figured out. Not only does Google induce efficiency, but also broadens our knowledge. It does not necessarily make one smarter, but it allows one to access information that could have taken them months to find out otherwise. Overall I think that Google has been a positive addition to the internet's vast applications.

I think it's a good point to make that Google makes finding a certain piece of information faster and that it leaves us more time to think about other things besides what is already known.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Google makes us lazier, but is efficiency really the best thing to have in the process of acquiring knowledge? It should be how we absorb and understand information, not how quickly we do it, as the internet tends to emphasize.
