Is Google Making Us Stupid?

I believe that Google has both negative and positive affects on our society today. Positively, anyone can access almost any information having to do with the topic they are searching for. However, some people may see this as a negative aspect, like parents or grandparents, because they knew what it was like to have to work to find a source of information and go to the library, as opposed to just flipping open a Macbook laptop to obtain the information. Personally, I think the Google search engine has enhanced my knowledge as a whole and been a very helpful tool in relation to my academics and grades in school over the years. Whether I need a new recipe to follow while performing my favorite hobby and pastime, baking, or looking for a scholarly source to quote in a paper, or even the price of a new bumper on my recently damaged car, Google seems to have it all. Although one might argue that this search engine has made me, along with everyone else who regularly uses Google lazy, I like to think of it more as an accessible and convenient helping aid.

  2. Google has it's negative effects like anything else but I agree that it just makes things quicker and gives us time to do other things. It's not a matter of laziness as some people may argue, it's just a whole lot more convenient.

  4. I agree with you that Google is a helpful tool that contains the answers to pretty much any questions you could possibly have. There are enough books, maps, images, magazines, and articles on Google to fill even the largest library, and it's all at your fingertips. The problem, though, is that with all of this easily accessed information, it can sometimes be easy to forget what it's like to have to research topics on your own and dig to find answers to your questions. It's just not the same when the answers are handed to you.
